Why Travel Insurance Matters
Comprehensive travel insurance is a condition of travel with Pride of Africa Adventures & Safaris Limited (see Section 10 of our Terms & Conditions). Safari destinations are often remote, and the right policy protects you financially if your trip is disrupted by illness, injury, cancellation, or the unexpected.
1. What Your Policy Should Cover
- Emergency medical treatment and hospitalization abroad.
- Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation — essential given the remoteness of many safari areas.
- Trip cancellation, curtailment, and delay.
- Loss, theft, or delay of baggage and personal belongings.
- Personal liability and personal accident cover.
- Cover for the specific activities on your itinerary — for example walking safaris, hot-air ballooning, diving, or high-altitude trekking, which some standard policies exclude unless added as an option.
2. When to Buy Your Policy
We recommend purchasing travel insurance as soon as you pay your deposit, not just before departure — this ensures trip-cancellation cover applies from the earliest possible date, protecting the money you’ve already committed to your trip.
3. What to Bring With You
- A printed or downloaded copy of your policy documents.
- Your insurer’s 24-hour emergency assistance phone number, saved in your phone and written down as a backup.
- Your policy number and any pre-authorization requirements for hospital treatment.
4. How This Works With Our Team
If a medical emergency arises during your safari, your guide and our operations team will help coordinate with your insurer’s emergency assistance line and local medical or evacuation services — see our Emergency Contact page. We are not a party to your insurance policy and cannot guarantee coverage decisions made by your insurer.
We do not sell or underwrite travel insurance ourselves. We recommend purchasing a policy from a reputable insurer in your home country that is familiar with East African travel.
