Best Time to Visit the Serengeti

The Serengeti is a year-round destination, but each season offers a distinctly different experience. Understanding the Great Migration calendar is key to planning your perfect visit.

The Great Migration Calendar

  • January–March: The wildebeest calving season in the southern Serengeti. Over 500,000 calves are born, attracting predators. Spectacular but often overlooked.
  • April–June: The long rains bring lush green landscapes. Fewer tourists, lower prices, but some roads may be difficult.
  • July–October: The main Migration river crossings at the Mara River. This is peak season with dramatic crocodile crossings.
  • November–December: The Migration begins moving south again. Short rains refresh the landscape.

Weather Patterns

The Serengeti sits at 920–1,850m elevation, making temperatures moderate year-round (15–30°C). Pack layers for early morning game drives.
